Mahendra Singh Dhoni keen on buying IPL team: Reports

New Delhi: If reports are to be believed then India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is keen to buy an IPL franchise.

The most successful Indian skipper, Dhoni has made his interest known to the BCCI to buy a team, the base price for which has been kept at Rs 40 crore by the board.

Apart from Dhoni, Kolkata tycoon Sanjeev Goenka too has shown interest in buying an IPL team.

Goenka currently co-owns the Indian Super League's Kolkata franchise - Atletico de Kolkata.

The situation has occurred because the BCCI Working Committee had decided to replace Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) following the interim report of the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha Committee on the spot fixing and betting scandal in the IPL 2013.

The interested franchise buyers have an option of choosing from nine venues earmarked by the BCCI for two new teams, the walk-in bids for which will be entertained on December 8 by the board. The nine cities include Ahmedabad, Indore and Kanpur while Jaipur and Kochi have been barred as franchise bases for reasons unknown.
