Mitchell Johnson warms up for IPL 9 with blistering spell

New Delhi: Retired Australian fast bowler warmed up for the 2016 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) with a blistering spell in a Western Australian Cricket Association - 1st Grade match on Saturday at Stevens Reserve.

The 34-year-old former Aussie bowler took three wickets from his 10 overs as Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club bowled out Fremantle for 174. Later, he made a quick-fire 10 with two fours even as Wanneroo suffered a 85-run loss.

Johnson, who retired from all forms of international cricket in November 2015, will play for IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab in the ninth edition of cash-rich Twenty20 tournament in May.

After the match, the left-arm bowler told cricket.com.au that his focus remains with the IPL and he will make a decision on any future appearances following that tournament.

"I'll have a look after the IPL and see where I want to go and if I want to continue playing Twenty20 cricket.

"A lot of guys do that these days, and do it well, but I'll just take it one step at a time," he was qouted as saying.

He also hinted at a possible return to Big Bash League next year.

"I'm keeping it fairly open though, there's no closed doors in terms of playing Big Bash next year," he said.
