Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir's only international cricketer Parvez Rasool is going to set up a cricket academy in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir.
The Parvez Rasool Cricket Academy will be established in Model Higher Secondary School in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, official said.
"Today the road map for establishing the state of the art Parvez Rasool Cricket Academy at Model Higher Secondary School Bijbehara Anantnag was finalised in collaboration with Kanwal Foods," a post in the official Facebook page of Directorate of School Education Kashmir read.
It was not clear as to when the academy will be completed but Rasool alongwith government officials including Director School Education Kashmir, Shah Faisal visited the school ground yesterday.
"Development of turf, wickets, pavillion, change room, gym centre, sports equipment and other utilities are some of the components that will be done by the Education Department in collaboration with Kanwal Foods Private Limited," an official of the Education Department said.
He said the Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder will be guiding and grooming the selected cricketers at the academy.
Rasool is the only cricketer from the state to have played international cricket. He played his solitary One-Day International game against Bangladesh at Dhaka in June last year.
The academy was announced by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last month during his visit to the school in Bijbehara.
