Mumbai: Mumbai coach Chandrakant Pandit is optimistic of the 40-time Ranji Trophy winners' chances against a strong Punjab outfit in the second round Group B game commencing at the Wankhede Stadium here on October 8 after the team's poor show against Andhra.
"We were looking forward to having a good start. But it is one of those things that happens. But it is also that you can get into a better position when you have this kind of an experience in the first game," the former India stumper told reporters after the team's practice session today.
"It is not the end of the world because it is a long season (ahead). And I think what I can see with the boys now is that they realise (what has happened). (From) the impression that they give, their body language, I think that they will definitely come back," said Pandit.
The former Mumbai wicket keeper said he had discussed what went wrong against Andhra, to whom they conceded first innings points in their group opener at Vizianagaram, during the practice session.
"There were key points that I had to discuss individually with them. I had spoken to them individually when the practice was on. They also have been talking to me and they also accept that there are certain things that we could have done much better. I am sure that they realise it and will comeback with a different approach. Ultimately it is Mumbai culture, that we don t give up.
Reminded of the poor start of Mumbai last season too when he was not its coach, Pandit said it was in the past but lessons learnt should be kept in mind.
"I don t think we should look back again. The season is over, it is the past. Of course there are certain things that you keep in mind and go ahead with that. We discussed after the match that we shouldn t forget these things.
"One match gone does not mean that the other match will go the same way. I feel that the young talent is very good.
There is no doubt about it. And they have that passion.
"It is just a matter of the one game that they did not click --- the first four batsmen. I am sure they will do well," he said about his top order batting line-up.
