New Delhi: India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was linked with South siren Lakshmi Rai for a long time before he tied the nuptial knot with Sakshi Singh Rawat.

Soon after India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the Ranchi-born cricketer became Indian cricket's new posterboy and had a huge female fan following as well.

Reportedly, the two met in 2008, when Dhoni, along with Suresh Raina, went to attend a party.

MS Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat in 2010 and now has a daughter named Ziva.

Speaking to The Times of India in 2014, Laxmi said that her relationship with Dhoni was like a scar to her as people still talked about it, years after the cricketer was married.
