The veteran actor bought a franchise in the league, which is slated to commence next year.

As Dutt continues to serve jail time, his wife Maanyata completed the deal in his absence.

"As a family, we have always been passionate about sport. Sanjay, in particular, has been an avid sports enthusiast since childhood," she told the Times of India.

Until Dutt returns, talent management company CAA KWAN will manage his franchise.

The actor is expected to finish his prison sentence in 2016.

"Like most Indians, we are extremely passionate about cricket and just the thought of owning a team with legends like Sehwag, Lara, Kallis being part of it is tremendously exciting. We are sure MCL is a unique concept and will prove to be a valuable investment," Maanyata further added.

MS Dhoni's manager Arun Pandey too has invested in a MCL franchise.

This is not the first time Dutt has invested in sports. In 2012, along with Raj Kundra, he formed the Super Fight League.
