New Delhi: Even before stepping into the Delhi dressing room for the first Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan, Ajay Jadeja has tendered his resignation from the Delhi chief coach's post, leaving the executive committee and government nominees embarrassed.
While Jadeja did not go to Jaipur citing his son's illness, it was learnt that he was unhappy with a lot of decisions of the DDCA including how the team was run.
While no one came on record, but the relationship between Jadeja and skipper Gautam Gambhir wasn't exactly very warm.
Firstly, there were reports that Jadeja was not happy with appointment of Amit Bhandari as bowling coach but he had said in some quarters that the reason is something else.
The Sports committee was not in favour of Jadeja's appointment, which was done a day prior to the results being announced.
The head of Sports Committee Vinod Tihara said that they were never in favour of Jadeja even though they had no intentions of going into a conflict with the executive body.
"We wanted the issue to be solved through dialogue and name of the coach being after the results of the Sports Committee elections being announced. But Jadeja was hurriedly appointed coach even though we had reservations about it. We wanted Vijay Dahiya as the coach," Tihara told PTI today.
Tihara said that Dahiya would be Sports Committee's recommendation for the job.
Dahiya had been the coach during the last season when Delhi won five of their eight matches by outright results before they lost the quarter-finals.
Dahiya is also the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders and he shares a good working relationship with skipper Gambhir. Gambhir and Jadeja have also played for Delhi for a long time.
