Zee Media Exclusive: Virender Sehwag dismisses reports of rift with MS Dhoni

'Nawab of Najafgarh' played 104 Tests and 251 ODIs for India.

New Delhi: Dashing opener Virender Sehwag, who announced his retirement from international cricket last week, put speculations regarding his rift with MS Dhoni to rest on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old batsman told Zee News in an exclusive interview that Dhoni always gave respect to all the seniors in the team. “He (Dhoni) always consulted with the seniors on the field. He never treated us (seniors) badly.”

“As far as I am concerned, Dhoni still respects me. Whenever we meet he greets me and even calls me Viru pa. The story was cooked by media and it was their speculation,” told the swashbuckling opener.

During the conversation, the destructive opener rued that the selectors did not give him enough chances and dropped him after a few failures.

"The selectors did not ask me about my future plan before dropping me during Australia series in 2013. Had the selectors told me about their decision, I could have announced my retirement in that series," said Viru.

'Nawab of Najafgarh', who played 104 Tests and 251 one-dayers for India, picked Anil Kumble as as the best captain he had played under. “Anil Kumble was the best captain I have played with. He used to boost our confidence level."
