New Delhi: The humiliating 4-0 beating by their eternal rivals Barcelona in the season's first El Clasico prompted many Real Madrid fans to seek refuge in former manager Carlo Ancelotti's online haven.
During and after the Santiago Bernabeu match, which was reportedly watched by over 500 million fans worldwide, Ancelotti's Instagram account was flooded with request to come back to the club, which the Italian helped complete the unprecedented 'Decima'.
The match witnessed a clueless Madrid side succumbing to the potent attacking threat from their visitors, with Luis Suarez scoring as early as the 11th minute of the game. Neymar scored the second goal before the half-time, in the 39th minute, as Madrid manager Rafa Benitez continued to cut a sorry figure on the touchline.
In the 53rd minute, Andres Iniesta tripled the lead and Suarez completed the rout with his second in the 77th minute, in what would be a one sided contest.
The defeat also opened up the fissures between Cristiano Ronaldo and Benitez, with reports in Spanish media feasting on a likely sacking of the former Liverpool manager, and heightened rumours of CR7 leaving the club, probably for a return to Manchester United.
Benitez arrived in Madrid from Napoli, in a three-year deal, to replace Ancelotti as Madrid's new manager on June 3.
Last week, Ancelotti posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Ronaldo, for the premiere of the Portuguese's biopic film.
