Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that the main accused in the Haj scandal, Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar, has been arrested in Rajasthan.

A police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Tahir Ahmed has succeeded in arresting Gilkar, who hails from Chandpora area at Harwan in Srinagar, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar Ashiq Hussain Bukhari said. More than 500 local Haj pilgrims were duped of over Rs 10 crore after Al-Hajeej tour and travel agency failed to arrange for their departure to Saudi Arabia.
The owners of the travel agency had said they could not arrange for the departure of their clients as the travel documents had not been received from the Saudi embassy in New Delhi.

The lid was blown from the fraud after the owners failed to refund the huge amounts of money they had collected from the clients.

Gilkar, one of the partners of the agency, was nabbed from Churu in Rajasthan and is being brought to Srinagar where he is wanted by police in connection with several offences including cheating a large number of people.
Police had already arrested Arsalan Gilkar, one of the owners of Hajeej from Mumbai airport on November 3 who, the pilgrims said, had lured them to pay more and early. PTI
