Champions League: Bayern Munich vs Arsenal - Five things we learned

Bayern made sure Arsenal couldn't conquer Munich territory.

New Delhi: Bayern Munich taught sleepy Arsenal a lesson at the Allianz Arena after brushing Arsene Wenger's side 5-1 and virtually end the latter's hope for qualification to the next round.

Here are the five things we learned from the game.

Robert Lewandowski is a poacher: The Polish international's eye for goal has been his best attribute and against Arsenal he continued in the same vein. Robert found his position well after Gabriel Paulista tried playing him offside. He scored an excellent header from a difficult angle to beat a standing Petr Cech and handed Bayern the impetus. This was his 24th goal in this season for club and country.

Arsenal's defence looked lost in Munich: Arsene Wenger blamed his defensive unit for the loss later on and he was absoulutely right. The visitors started the game well but conceding such soft goals hurt their approach. Paulista and Per Mertesacker looked off-beat as a pair and Mathieu Debuchy in right back allowed too much space. Arsenal missed Hector Bellerin and Laurent Koscielny badly who were injured in the build-up.

Pep Guardiola was brilliant tactically: Bayern was sublime and dangerous at the same time to snatch the opportunity from a vulnerable looking Arsenal defence. Pep Guardiola had promised a high-pressing game with focus on attack and he stuck to his plan superbly. Bayern's passing and counter-attacking saw Arsenal get out-paced and Wenger's side allowed them to dictate proceedings.

Joel Campbell unsuitable for big games: With several key players being injured, Wenger decided to play Joel Campbell out wide on the right and that backfired badly. Campbell lost the ball quite often and got an unnecessary yellow card for making a bad tackle inside the box as Arsenal escaped a penalty. Campbell was short of answers handling David Alaba and Kingsley Coman.

Bayern's big boys never fail to impress: Arjen Robben lit up the Allianz Arena when he came on as a substitute and scored from his first touch of the ball after being fed by Alaba. Robben has just returned from injury. Fellow star Thomas Muller scored two superb goals and looked dangerous in Bayern's potent attacking force. Robben and Muller gave Bayern solid pace and creativity.
