New Delhi: Portuguese super-star Cristiano Ronaldo score four goals for Real Madrid as giants demolished Celta Vigo 7-1 in a La Liga clash on Saturday.
The win was not enough to catch-up with rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the standing, but it sure did provide a sense of calm at Santiago Bernabeu as the packed crowd was treated to a goal-fest.
Besides, those four goals also helped the three-time Ballon d'Or winner overtake Barca's Luis Suarez as the leading scorer with 27. Suarez, who missed from the spot in Barca's 5-1 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano yesterday, has 25.
In the process, Ronaldo also surpassed Telmo Zarra as the second highest scorer in La Liga history. Ronaldo has scored 252 goals in 228 appearances, which behind only Lionel Messi's 305 strikes from 337 games. Zarra had scored 251 from 278 outings.
Ronaldo's Portuguese compatriot Pepe opened the scoring in the 41st minute, before the former Manchester United player scored in the 50th, 58th, 64th and 76th minutes. It was also his 30th La Liga hat-trick.
Jese and Gareth Bale scored in the 77th and 81st minutes respectively to complete the rout.
Iago Aspas scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 62nd minute.
Zinedine Zidane side are third with 60 points from 28 matches, one behind Atletico, and nine behind Barca. Both the rivals however have a game each at hand.
