Czech legend Petr Cech retires from international football

Cech played at the 2016 European Championships and became the most capped player in the history of Czech team, with 123 caps.

New Delhi: Legendary Czech Republic goal-keeper Petr Cech announced his retirement from international football on Friday.

Cech, 34, played at the 2016 European Championships and became the most capped player in the history of Czech team, with 123 caps.

Czech failed to make the knock-outs at Euro 2016, finishing last in their four-team Group D which also had Croatia, Spain and Turkey.

The Arsenal goal-keeper will however continue playing club football. He was Arsene Wenger's only signing last summer as he joined from Chelsea.

He then joined Chelsea in 2004, after a European Championship at which the Czechs got to the semi-finals, beating Germany and the Netherlands en route.

With Chelsea he won four Premier League titles (2005, 2006, 2010, 2015), the Champions League (2012), the Europa League (2013) and a host of other trophies.

After 11 years with the Blues, Cech made a £10 million ($14.4 million) move across London to join the Gunners as he only managed seven games in the 2014/2015 season, shaded by manager Jose Mourinho`s first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois.
