If we handle young players like horses then we get horses, Jurgen Klopp warns English FA

New Delhi: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned English Football Association not to treat young players like horses.

According to reports in British media, the German was furious at the FA for allowing Liverpool starlet Jordan Rossiter to play three games in six days for England Under-19s.

“I have never heard of such a young player being asked to play three games in five days. I don’t know who I need to speak to about this but people from the club will be contacting the FA because this is not OK. I did not want to start my first week at Melwood with a complaint, but it cannot be normal to play three games in five days, even in England. What can I say?” he said.

18-year-old midfielder Rossiter played against Macedonia, Finland and Italy in the European Under-19 championship, but returned to Anfield with an injury that will keep him out for a month.

"These young players are our future. If we handle them like horses then we get horses. We would prefer them to have time to develop and not feel too much pressure. Three games in five days for an 18-year-old is just wrong,” the former Borussia Dortmund manager added.

Subsequently, teenager missed Liverpool's Europa League clash with Rubin Kazan on Thursday. The teenager joined Jordan Henderson, Jon Flanagan, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez on Klopp’s injury list.
