Hummels was a key member of Klopp’s former team Dortmund which won back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Klopp was last Thursday named as Liverpool coach and will have his first EPL battle on Saturday as his team faces Tottenham Hotspurs.

"I am convinced Klopp can win the league at Liverpool,” the German international was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk on Friday.

"He has shown he doesn’t need the biggest transfer budget or the biggest name to win the biggest trophies."

Hummels, however believes Klopp needs time to settle down at Liverpool and then take on the other heavyweights in the league.

“Of course there are teams in England that have no financial restrictions when it comes to buying players, but he showed at Dortmund that he has the intelligence to combat that. Perhaps not immediately, but in time I am sure that he can,” the 26-year-old 2014 FIFA World Cup winner said.

"He is a winner, I know him. His long term goal won’t just be to qualify for the Champions League, and settle for that.

“It will be to challenge Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal for the title, and he is absolutely capable of doing that.”
