New Delhi: Former England and Manchester United skipper Bryan Robson has stated that the Premier League side have to play attacking and adventurous football because of the entertainment business they are in.
United are fifth in the EPL table and its manager Louis van Gaal has faced a lot of criticism from all corners regarding lack of creativity and attacking football. United had a dismal run in December 2015 but since then have gone five matches unbeaten across all competitions.
Robson stated that it is up to the players and the manager to play an attacking and adventurous football.
“They are in the entertainment business and have to play attacking and adventurous football and excite the fans. It's up to both players and the manager."
Dutchman Louis Van Gaal replaced a sacked David Moyes in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era. Robson said Gaal knew he had to steady the ship and owing to his philosophy of putting a solid foundation, it has been difficult to score against his side.
"When he (Van Gaal) first came into Manchester United, he knew he had to steady the ship because once we lost Alex Ferguson, we did not get into Champions League. He came in and said I want to put a solid foundation into work form so that it's difficult to score against.”
He also went on to add that Gaal has got the basics in there now and United have also improved as far attacking game is concerned.
"Because of that philosophy it's been a little bit difficult to get free-flowing football like it was under Sir Alex. But he's got that basics there now and I can see Manchester United improve as far as being a bit more attacking (is concerned).
United face Southampton at home on Saturday in the Premier League.
