London: Former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed that he was the one who stopped Luis Suarez from joining Arsenal in the summer of 2013.
According to the Mirror, Suarez was desperate to join Arsenal two years ago, but Liverpool refused to accept the bid, forcing Suarez to eventually stay at Anfield for one more season.
Gerrard, who is currently playing for MLS club LA Galaxy, said that he also played a key role in changing Suarez's mind.
The veteran midfielder revealed that he convinced the 28-year-old that he didn't want to join the Gunners and also helped him improve his relationship with manager Brendan Rodgers.
Gerrard admitted that none of them wanted the Uruguayan to leave Liverpool, as he was their strongest player and his transfer to Arsenal would have bolstered the rival team.
Suarez joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014 in a deal worth 75 million pounds, thus making it the most costly transfer of that season.
