New Delhi: The Indian Super League (ISL) continues to attract football luminaries from across the world. The latest to jump into the Indian bandwagon is the former West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke. The Scottish manager expressed his desire to join the league.
Having work with some of the biggest clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool as assistant manager, Clarke can certainly bring in lots of know-hows into the league. According to reports, he had met Shrinivas Dempo, co-owner of FC Goa earlier this month.
Talking to Sky Sports about a possible move to India, he said that "It’s definitely something I wouldn’t turn a blind eye to and I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand. Obviously I'd like to get back to work in the Premier League as quickly as possible." Besides, the 50-year-old hailed the initiative from India as a “good project.”
However, keeping his preferences with the English Premier League, he stressed that it will be too presumptuous to consider the India move a certainty. "I want to get back involved with that but if an opportunity comes up to speak to somebody in the Indian Super League (ISL) then maybe it is something I would consider. I had good chats with one or two decent clubs but obviously you have to get a feel for a club for yourself,” he added.
The former Chelsea Clarke was beaten by Neil Warnock to the Crystal Palace manager's post at the last moment is now available for new projects like the ISL. Certainly impressed with the new development and prospects in India, he opined “I think for Indian football it’s an exciting development. Obviously where they are ranked in the world (150) is not good. For a country that size they should be ranked much higher in the world. But it shows that the people who are running the football in the country and responsible for it are thinking about how they can make it better.”
