Kolkata: Heavyweights East Bengal will look for full points and go atop the standings when they lock horns with Shillong Lajong in an I-League football match here on Tuesday.
Ahead of the game at the Barasat stadium, East Bengal were placed second on the points table with 11 points, and a win would propel them above Bengaluru FC, who are currently holding the numero uno spot with with 12 points.
Whereas if Lajong pull off a win they will climb to 10 points, same as that of third placed Mohun Bagan. The visitors are currently fifth.
Both teams are coming into the contest on the back of a win. East Bengal defeated newcomers Aizawl FC 2-0, while Shillong Lajong got the better of Sporting Clube de Goa by a solitary goal.
For Shillong Lajong, taking on East Bengal on a turf that is very familiar to the Kolkata outfit, could prove to be a different ball game altogether. The hosts are high on confidence after the arrival of experienced player Bernard Mendy.
The Frenchman scored with a top-class header in his I-League debut against Aizawl and was the fulcrum of East Bengal's attacks in the game.
