Islamabad: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that Pakistan`s main political parties were being run like dynasties, with their leadership being confined to a handful of families.
"The political parties are being run like dynasties where the baton is handed over from father to son," Khan told a rally at Haripur yesterday in the Hazara belt of Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa province. "No matter how many capable leaders the PML-N has, its leadership will go to the offspring of the Sharif clan," said the chief of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party.

Khan criticised the ruling Pakistan People`s Party too, saying: "The PPP describes itself as a democratic party but (President Asif Ali Zardari`s son) Bilawal Bhutto will be made the leader even though he cannot even speak Urdu."
The passing on of the leadership of these parties from one family member to another was not democracy, he said. "This is not democracy, it is an empire, it is a joke with all of us," he said. PTI
