Lucknow: Celebrating a low-key birthday on Sunday, Chief Minister Mayawati appealed to voters and party workers to ensure a victory for her party in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
With the model code of conduct in place for the UP elections, Mayawati had to restrict her birthday celebrations to family and friends unlike previous years when the day used to witness huge birthday bash across the state.
Also unlike previous years, no decoration of the state capital Lucknow was undertaken. Speaking to the press here, Mayawati said a win in the upcoming pills would be her best birthday gift.
She also appeal to party workers to hold rallies in villages to ensure the party`s victory.
The CM also released the seventh volume of her memoirs today.
Mayawati`s birthday celebrations in the past have been extravagant often courting controversy over the expenses incurred, active participation of bureaucrats and observance of the day as ‘arthik sahyog diwas’. In 2011, she had announced around 600 new projects on the occasion.
Mayawati is expected to start campaign in Uttaranchal on January 16 and later in Punjab.
In Uttar Pradesh, she will begin her electioneering later this month for the 55 constituencies going to polls in the first phase on February 8.
