UEFA Champions League, GW 6 Round-up: Real Madrid concede top spot to Borussia Dortmund; Leicester receive 5-0 thrashing

New Delhi: Defending champions Real Madrid failed to make the most of their two-goal lead and played out a 2-2 draw with visiting Borussia Dortmund in their 2016-17 UEFA Champions League last group match early Thursday morning.

After sharing the spoils at Santiago Bernabeu, Zinedine Zidane's side ended second in the Group F with 12 points, two points lesser than Dortmund's 14.

A double from Karim Benzema seemed to have given the home side all three points but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus second half strikes meant that the favourites settled with only one point.

Reus' last gasp minute strike, two minutes from the regulation time, was Dortmund's 21st goal of the season, and the most for any team in a group stage in the history of the tournament.

From the group, Polish side Legia Warsaw, with four points, qualified for the Europa League. Portuguese club Sporting could managed only three points.

In Group E, Tottenham Hotspur beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 thanks to scores from Deli Alli and Harry Kane and an own goal from legendary Russian goal-keeper Igor Akinfeev. But the Wembley Stadium win was not enough for the English team to make the Champions League knock-out stage.

At third place, with seven points, Spurs will play in Europa League. CSKA finished last, with three points.

Group leaders Monaco suffered a 0-3 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena. Both the teams are through to the last-16.

English champions Leicester suffered a rude awakening in their so-far perfect continental campaign. At Estadio do Dragao, the Foxes were thrashed by FC Porto, who needed a win to confirm their place in the knock-out stage.

Despite the defeat, Leicester topped the Group G with 13 points, two more than Porto – 1987 and 2004 European champions.

At Brugge, FC Copenhagen beat the home side 2-0 to qualify for the Europa League, with nine points. Club Brugge KV lost all their six matches.

In Group H, La Liga outfit Sevilla made the last 16 for the first time in seven years thanks to a nervy goal-less draw at Lyon.

Sevilla, with 11 points, joined leaders Juventus in the next round, while Lyon, with 8 points, will compete in Europa League.

Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb finished last in the group with six defeats.

Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain (from Group A), Napoli, Benfica (Group B), Barcelona, Manchester City (Group C) and Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich (Group D) have already made the last-16.

Barcelona super-star Lionel Messi, with 10 goals, is the leading scorer in the group.

The round of 16 draw will be held on Monday in Nyon. Here are all the qualified teams:
