JAKARTA: After the successful completion of various sporting events on the Day 5 of the ongoing Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia, India bagged a Silver and two Bronze medals, taking its total tally to 18. With a total of 18 medals, which include 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 10 Bronze medals, India are placed at the 10th spot in the overall medals tally. In one of the major upsets of the day, India's 28-year reign as the Asian Games' Kabaddi champions came to a spectacular end following a shock 27-18 defeat by Iran in the men's semifinals on Thursday.

In other sports, the 15-year old shooter Shardul Vihan won a Silver in Men’s Double Trap event. In Tennis, India's Ankita Raina won the first medal for the country as she lost 4-6, 7-6 against Chinese rival Zhang Shuai. The 25-year old settled for a Bronze. The Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan entered the finals, assuring India of at least a Silver medal. India's star rower Dattu Bhokanal disappointed as he finished in the 6th position in Men’s Singles Sculls final with a timing of 8:28:56. On the other hand, star Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal advanced to the Round of 16. In weightlifting, both Sathish Kumar Sivalingam and Ajay Singh failed to grab a medal. While men's team faced a setback, India's women’s team beat Chinese Taipei 27-14 in Kabaddi semifinals.
