Bhopal: At least fifteen persons have been arrested in connection with the violence here during the rail blockade staged here by some NGOs on the 27th anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy, police said on Monday.
Bhopal SSP, Yogesh Choudhary said that 15 persons have been arrested and nine cases have been registered in this connection. Also, around 70 people, who were involved in stone pelting on Saturday, have been identified. The SSP said all these people would be arrested soon as they are seen on the video footage obtained that day.
Choudhary said there was no need for gas activists to indulge in stone throwing and they could have shown better sense as there no provocation for the same.
The SSP said that action would be taken against NGO leader, Balkrishna Namdeo as his picture has been found on the video footage. He, however, clarified that members of the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan were not involved in the stone throwing on December 3.
The anniversary of the gas tragedy was marred by violence when police used force to evict those staging rail blockade.
