Kochi: Kerala High Court on Thursday upheld the ban imposed by the state Government on the conduct of `Freedom Parades` by activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) at Kollam and Kozhikode on August 15.
Justice PR Ramachandran Nair said there is no illegality in the Government Order imposing ban on the Freedom Parade. The order was passed on a batch of petitions by PFI seeking a permission to conduct the parade on Independence Day.
Earlier, the Government had submitted that the PFI, is the `resurrection` of banned SIMI in another form and along with National Democratic Front (NDF) had `active involvement` in 27 murder cases, mostly of cadres of CPI(M) and RSS. Meanwhile, a Division Bench granted police protection to a petitioner alleging that a private property was forcibly occupied for the conduct of mass drill at Idinjakkaplamoottil in Thiruvananthapuram.
