New Delhi: Hard work never goes in vain. The old adage has once again proved to be true as 15-year-old Prince Pal Singh has bagged a dream basketball deal in the United States.
Prince, who hails from Punjab, learned the nuances of the sport for one year in Ludhiana Basketball Academy, where he was taken a year ago by his father Gurmaje Singh, who is an electrician by profession.
According to a report in The Times of India, in an open selection trial conducted recently by the Delhi Public School, Rajnandgaon - with the support of Schools Games Federation of India (SGFI) - at the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) Training Centre, Prince was selected for a three-year scholarship in America.
Prince impressed the authorities as he bagged a scholarship worth $75,000 (Rs50 Lakh) for the period July 2016 to September 2019.
According to TOI, Recruitment and development consul tant of North Atlantic Basketball Academy , Dermot Russell, was very impressed with Prince's athleticism as a result of which he picked him ahead of several other experienced players.
There are no prizes for guessing that Satnam Singh is Prince's idol.
Satnam Singh Bhamara took a giant leap by becoming the first Indian to be drafted into the NBA in the US in June 2015.
