New Delhi: Indian shooter Jitu Rai on Wednesday won the silver medal in 50m Pistol event at the on-going Asian Shooting Championships in Dubai.
And with that he has become the first Indian shooter to win a medal in the high-profile event.
Daehun Park of Korea, with a tally of 199.2, won the gold, while the 28-year-old Indian managed to finish 2nd best with with a tally of 189.5 in the summit clash.
The International Olympic Committee's (IOC) had stripped Asian Shooting Championships of its status as a qualifying tournament for the Rio Olympics.
But it doesn't really matter for Jitu, who has already won an Olympic berth for Rio 2016.
India have so far won eight Olympic berths in shooting including Jitu. Other Indian shooters who have made it to the list are Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Apurvi Chandela, Gurpreet Singh, Prakash Nanjappa, Chain Singh and Mairaj Khan.
