Sarita Devi feels destiny in boxers' hands as good outing in Rio Olympics could see future shining again

New Delhi: India's boxing ace L Sarita Devi stated that the future of Indian boxing lies in the hands of the players as a good outing in the Rio Olympics 2016 could see the future of the sport be shining again.

The administrative mess in Indian boxing has been long-dragging and Sarita claimed that it is up to the country's boxers to rise above this crisis.

"At this moment, boxing can go either way, we can't say which way. It's at crossroads but the destiny is in our hands. If we do well and put India on top at Olympics, the future will definitely be shining again," the Glasgow Commonwealth Games bronze medallist said.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) had terminated Boxing India last year and since then the sport is being administered by an ad-hoc committee. Sarita said that the young boxers are training hard but are clueless about their competitions.

"No doubt it's frustrating for the young boxers that they don't have any tournaments. They're training hard but clueless about their competitions. Hopefully things will be fine soon," she added.

Sarita won the gold medal in the recently-concluded South Asian Games in Shillong after serving a one-year ban for her infamous emotional outburst after a controversial semifinal loss in the 2014 Asian Games.
