Sporting world shows solidarity after ghastly Paris attacks
Sports icons showed their solidarity and mourned after Paris terrorist attacks.
New Delhi: The inescapable reality of terrorism hit sporting world hard on Friday as suicide bombers reportedly detonating themselves at the Stade de France stadium where France was Germany in an international friendly.
The high profile match with thousands of football fans in attendance, including French President Francois Hollande, ended in chaos even as Paris witnessed it's most brutal date in modern history. A series of attacks killed at least 128 people with nearly 100 more victims in critical condition.
Sports icons across the globe showed their solidarity and mourned after these acts of despicable terrorist attacks reduced one of the cultural capitals of the world into a standstill.
France legend Thierry Henry, Australian Tim Cahill and former Chelsea player Didier Drogba, tennis players Gilles Simon, Caroline Wozniacki, basketball star LeBron James, super-athlete Usain Bolt and many took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share their solidarity.
In between, according to reports, all weekend sporting fixtures in the Paris area have been postponed after the attacks. Glasgow Warriors' European Champions Cup match against Racing 92 is among the fixtures to be postponed. Coupe de France ties at Entente SSG, Versailles, Bretigny and Mantes have also been postponed.
Besides rugby and football matches, two basketball Ligue A matches and four women's first division games; One handball Division one match; and Taekwondo Paris international tournament have also been postponed.
