Telangana JAC postpones `rail roko` agitation
Telangana JAC, spearheading the ongoing agitation for statehood, on Tuesday postponed the `rail roko` scheduled between October 15 and 17.
Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee,
spearheading the ongoing agitation for statehood, on Tuesday
postponed the ‘rail roko’ scheduled between October 15 and 17.
"The rail roko is postponed. The decision was taken keeping in view the political scenario and our agitation strategy," JAC Convener M Kodandaram told agency. This is the second time the ‘rail roko’ has been postponed. It was originally scheduled to be held for three days on October 9, 10 and 11 but was postponed to October 12, 13 and 14.
Kodandaram said some member-organisations of the JAC sought more time for preparation for the ‘rail roko’.
Talking tough, the Andhra Pradesh Police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) have warned that stringent action would be initiated against those who violate law during the rail blockade. The railway authorities have said that they would run trains with tight security arrangements put in place.
The JAC comprises TRS, BJP and a number of organisations like pro-Telangana employees of Andhra Pradesh government.
The JAC began a ?sakala janula samme? (strike by all sections of people) from September 13 that has badly affected normal life in Telangana with educational institutions and public transport remaining shut.
The pro-Telangana employees have also been part of the strike and the state government had yesterday invited them for talks.
Meanwhile, top Congress leaders in New Delhi held consultations with the party leaders from the state as part of efforts to firm up the party`s views on the contentious issue.
