New Delhi: After a nervy 3-2 win over Ireland, India took on defending Olympic chamipons Germany in the second Group B encounter for both.

India were beaten by Germany 5-2 in the London Olympic Games, but were hoping to continue momentum and turn the tables around this time.

The Indian midfield looked more determined in the first quarter, winning plenty of challenges in the middle but the German defence refused to give anything away.

Germany's Ruhr got the green card on the stroke of first quarter, which ended goalless.

A much more organised Germany opened the scoring in second half, Niklas Wellen scoring from open play.

India were awarded with a penalty corner with seven minutes left in the 2nd corner, Rupinder Pal Singh got India level with a bullet hit.

The men in blue created better chances towards the end of second quarter, but the score remained 1-1. India came close to scoring their second goal from a penalty corner in the 3rd quarter but the German goalkeeper had different ideas.

With just seconds remaining in the final quarter, Germany scored through a deflection to win the match 2-1. Indian's probably deserved more from their performance but had to taste a bitter defeat.
