Narsingh Yadav doping controversy: NADA hearing to continue on Thursday

The WFI has named Praveen Rana in the reserve slot in case Narsingh is not able to participate in the Olympics.

New Delhi: Narsingh Pancham Yadav will know his 2016 Rio Olympics fate on Thursday as the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) hearing failed to come to any decision today in New Delhi.

The hearing to the 26-year-old's doping case started on Wednesday at NADA office in New Delhi with elaborate security arrangements as the grappler's supporters turned-out in huge numbers.

They shouted “Narsingh bhai Zindabad” and demanded a CBI enquiry into the matter.

The hearing lasted more than three hours, but the verdict will be delivered only tomorrow.

According to reports, the defence team cited at least couple of international examples, which are similar to Narsingh's case.

Narsingh's chances of participating in the upcoming Rio Olympics came under a cloud last Sunday when he returned a positive result for a dope test conducted NADA on June 25.

Following this, Narsingh was handed a provisional suspension. And the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has put Parveen Rana in the reserved slot to save India the quota place.

The 26-year-old ran into further trouble on Wednesday after it was announced that a second test conducted on July 5 has also returned a positive result.

The wrestler had claimed of a conspiracy to frame him and had filed a police report in this regard, although he refrained from naming anyone.

The WFI has named Praveen Rana in the reserve slot in case Narsingh is not able to participate in the Olympics.

Meanwhile, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh today revealed the names of two junior wrestlers who are alleged to have spiked Narsingh's food with banned substances.
