No water for OP Jaisha: Here's what Virat Kohli's former coach Rajkumar Sharma has to say about it

New Delhi: Support has been pouring in from all corners ever since Indian marathon runner OP Jaisha shared her ordeal at the Rio Olympics 2016 where there were no officials from India present during her race to offer her refreshments.

Jaisha, who finished 89th in Rio Olympics women's marathon event with a below-par timing of 2:47:19, collapsed after the race and was rushed to the hospital. She regained consciousness three hours later.

Speaking to ANI, Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli's former coach slammed the incident and demanded action against culprits.

"It's a very unfortunate thing. She must have prepared very hard for it. She didn't get the basic thing, water. It's a big failure on the part of the management. The culprits should be punished for it," he said.

However, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials have refuted her claims saying Jaisha and her coach had refused the offer to have refreshments served at the counters. He also added that the report of the officials not being present during the race was also untrue.

"Each team is allowed to keep their own personalised drinks on the booths, marked in a colour as per the choice of the team and athlete. Accordingly, as per the rule, on the night ahead of women's marathon race, Indian team manager carried 16 empty bottles, eight each for Jaisha and Kavita Raut and visited the duo and their coach Nikolai Snesarev in their room," the AFI said in a statement.
