Polish Olympic champion Adrian Zielinski weightlifter fails dope test after his brother Tomasz Zielinski

Polish 2012 Olympic champion weightlifter Adrian Zielinski has been banned from Rio Games after testing positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone just three days after his brother Tomasz suffered the same fate, Poland`s Anti-doping committee said Friday.

The drug was detected as the 27-year-old was gearing up for last Saturday`s 94kg competition in Rio. His brother Tomasz, 25, was also registered for the contest before he also tested positive.

Adrian Zielinski, gold medal winner in the 85kg category at the London Olympics, and European champion Tomasz, have denied any wrongdoing.

Adrian Zielinski told Polish media they were "set up", but did not elaborate on the comment.

"I`d have to be a complete idiot to train for a medal and come to Rio on some kind of drug," Adrian told Poland`s TVN 24 news channel in Rio.

"I have too much to lose to use doping," he said, adding "It`s some kind of a manipulation. Someone must have set us up."

Poland`s weightlifting federation president Szymon Kolecki -- gold medal winner in Beijing -- stepped down Tuesday after Tomasz Zielinski was eliminated from competition.

"I`m sorry for and ashamed of what has happened," he told reporters.

The Zielinskis trained for the Olympics individually, outside the framework established by the Polish federation.
