New Delhi: In-form weightlifter Kianoush Rostami shattered his own world record as he clinched Iran`s first medal of the Rio Games with gold in the men`s 85kg competition on Friday.
The 25-year-old raised 179kg above his head in the snatch before jerking 217kg for a combined total of 396 and a new world record.
China`s Tian Tao claimed silver on 395kg while Romanian Gabriel Sincraian took bronze with 390.

Rostami is enjoying a great run in 2016. Earlier in the year, he established a world record in the clean and jerk with a 220kg lift.
In the process he also claimed the combined total record with 395kg, which he broke on Friday.
