New Delhi: A couple of days after winning her record-equalling 22 Grand Slam title, emotional Serena Williams spoke about her fairy-tale journey in the sport.
“I've had great dreams. I didn't come from money or anything, but I had a dream and I did have hope. That's really all you need,“ Serena, the seven-time Wimbledon champion, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The top ranked American in now mere two Slams away to match the all-time record of 24 major titles, a rare feat achieved by Australia's Margaret Court before the start of Open era.
The 34-year-old also talked about the power and privilege of being Serena Williams. “We shouldn't put any female athlete in a box. Why do we have to be limited to just female athletes? We all work really hard. We want to be known as just athletes.
“I've been given a great opportunity. I've been given so much talent. I've been put in a position where I can inspire ladies and men, as well. Anyone, any kid out there that wants to be something, who has a dream,“ added Serena.
