Injured Rafael Nadal to skip Wimbledon warm-up at Queen's Club

New Delhi: Rafael Nadal's bid to resurrect his injury-prone career has received another blow on Wednesday with his withdrawal from Queen`s Club, which is considered a key warm-up event ahead of Wimbledon.

Last Friday, the 29-year-old Spaniard stunned Roland Garros by announcing pull out before his French Open third-round match against compatriot Marcel Granollers.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion said that he would have suffered a more serious injury had he not withdrawn from his favourite tournament.

Today, the former World Number one announced his successive pull out, giving enough hint that all is not well his body, which has lived through the brutality of physical game.

"I am very sad that my wrist injury means that I cannot play at The Queen`s Club this year," Nadal, who turns 30 on Friday, told the tournament website.

"It is a tournament and a club that I love, I enjoy playing in front of the British people, and I was looking forward to trying to win the title for a second time," he added.

It's believed that Nadal, who will turn 30 on Friday, took the decision after failing to recover the injury sustained during the French Open.

Queens' Club is considered one of the key tune-up tournaments before Wimbledon, which Nadal won in 2008 and 2010.

Nadal now has some four weeks for his injury to heal with the third Grand Slam tournament of the year beginning on June 27.
