Johannesburg: In a bid to revive his injury-hit career, Rafael Nadal has added former world number one Carlos Moya to his coaching team, alongside uncle Toni Nadal.
Moya is no stranger to the coaching ranks, having guided Milos Raonic to a career year on the ATP World Tour and a year-end position of No. 3 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Raonic entered the 2016 season at No. 14 when Moya was hired.
"I am very excited to announce that Carlos Moya will join my team immediately and working together with Toni and Francis Roig," Sport24 quoted Nadal as saying in a statement.
"To have someone like Carlos, who is not only a friend but also a very important person in my career, is something special.
"The former world number one will also coach at Nadal`s recently inaugurated tennis academy in Mallorca.
"I am sure that together with Toni, Francis and the rest of the team we have a great common project," said Moya."Rafa is a special player and above all a great person and friend on which I have a lot of trust and confidence that will be able to continue winning important titles," he added.
The Spaniard won the last of his 14 grand slam titles in 2014 as he claimed his ninth French Open title, but has suffered a string of injuries since that high point.
He will begin his new season at a six-man event in Abu Dhabi from December 29 to 31.
