SanTina is back: Sania Mirza, Martina Hingis to defend their WTA Finals title
The duo became an instant smash hit, and won won three Grand Slam titles besides capturing 11 WTA titles together since teaming up in 2015 at Indian Wells.
New Delhi: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis have announced the return of one of the most celebrated women's doubles team. The Indo-Swiss team will start their WTA Finals title defence in Singapore.
The uber-successful Indo-Swiss pair will play sixth seeded Yung-jan Chan and Hao-ching Chan in their first match together after their split earlier this year.
Sania, who recently completed 80 weeks as world number one doubles player, took to Twitter to announce their arrival in Singapore.
Popularly known as SanTina, they have been seeded second behind all-French pair of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, and have been placed in the bottom half, where they will fight out against Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (seeded 4th), Andrea Hlavackova/Lucie Hradecka (6th), besides the Chang sisters.
The Indo-Swiss pair won the title last year, defeating Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro in the final.
The pair enjoyed one of the most dominant period in women's doubles, but they announced the split in August, and the Indian teamed up with Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic while the Swiss legend opted American Coco Vandeweghe.
