New York: Key moments in Sunday`s US Open men`s singles final where third-seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka defeated world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic 6-7 (1/7), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.


1st set

+ Wawrinka drops his first service game, letting two game points slip away and firing a backhand into the net to stake Djokovic to a 2-0 lead.


+ Djokovic consolidates the break with a love game book-ended with a pair of aces.


+ Facing double set point against his serve in the eighth game, Wawrinka produced two big serves to reach deuce and held with a winner off each wing.

2nd set


+ Wawrinka seizes the initiative with a stinging backhand to the baseline good for a break for 3-1.


+ After quickly falling behind 0-40 in the next game, Wawrinka reels off five points to hold for 4-1, but Djokovic converts a break chance in the seventh to put the set back on serve.


+ Wawrinka`s forehand winner to end a 20-shot rally gave him two set points against Djokovic`s serve in the 10th game. Djokovic saved one with a neat volley to end another rally, but fired wide with a forehand on the next.


Key set statistics: Wawrinka trimmed his unforced errors to eight.


3rd set


+ Wawrinka again saved break points to open the set with a hold.


+ Wawrinka takes a 2-0 lead with a break courtesy of a forehand passing winner and a backhand that was too much for Djokovic to get back.


+ Djokovic regains the break in the fifth game as Wawrinka is unable to convert two game points. 


+ Serving to force a tiebreaker, Djokovic takes a 40-30 lead with a service winner. Wawrinka fights back for deuce and Djokovic misses a backhand to give the Swiss a set point. Djokovic`s big serve out wide just misses and Wawrinka takes the point, forcing Djokovic into a backhand error to go up two sets to one.


Key set statistics: Djokovic converted just one of six break points. Wawrinka hits 18 winners.


4th set


+ Wawrinka seizes another break for 2-0 and follows up with a confident hold to lead 3-0.


+ After a hard-fought hold from 30-40 down leaves him trailing 1-3 Djokovic receives treatment on both feet, taking a medical time out. Wawrinka objects to the time out being granted when it`s not a changeover.


+ Trailing 2-5, Djokovic takes another medical time out.


Key set statistics: Wawrinka saved all three break points. Hits another 12 winners and just four unforced errors.
