World no. 797 Rebeka Masarova storms into the semi-final of WTA Ladies Championship

Switzerland: Teenage Swiss wildcard Rebeka Masarova, ranked 797th in the world, continued her fairytale run in the Ladies Championship in Gstaad on Saturday by surging into the semi-finals.

The talented 16 year old put out German fifth seed Annika Beck 7-5, 6-2 to set up a last-four meeting on the clay with fellow Swiss Viktorija Golubic.

Masarova, who recently won the junior French Open title, is playing in her first WTA tournament and defeated former world number one Jelena Jankovic in the rain-delayed first round on Thursday.

The 105th-ranked Golubic saw off another German, Carina Witthoeft, 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/4).

"It`s great to reach my first WTA semi-final, but I can`t enjoy it at all since I now have to get ready for the semi-final," Golubic said.

Top seed and home favourite Timea Bacsinszky blitzed Sweden`s Johanna Larsson 6-0, 6-1 to power into the semis.

The Swiss -- three of four in the semis -- advanced unhindered in 55 minutes, breaking a helpless Larsson seven times.

Kiki Bertens will play Bacsinszky after defeating Russian Iirna Khromacheva 6-3, 6-1 in the last of the quarter-finals under perfect sunny skies.

"I played a determined match, it was very efficient for me," said Bacsinszky. "I tried to use every opportunity.

"I`m used to this clay and am feeling good about my game. I hope to go even farther," added the 2015 Roland Garros semi-finalist, who is 17th in the world.

Bacsinszky will be hoping for revenge after losing a French Open quarter-final to the Dutchwoman in straight sets.

Both players are chasing a second title this season, with Bacsinszky winning Rabat and Bertens claiming the title in Nurnberg.
