Chennai: The Sri Lankan Navy personnel apprehended as many as ten Tamil Nadu fishermen along with their boats at Palk Strait in the wee hours on Sunday.
The fishermen were apprehended by the Lankan navy as they were allegedly fishing in their terrestrial water.
While four of the fishermen belonged to this island town, the others hailed from Jegadapattinam in Pudukottai district, Fisheries department officials said.
The arrest comes a day after eight fishermen from the southern state were detained by the Lankan navy personnel along with one boat near Neduntheevu in Palk Strait.
Immediate release of the fishermen presently in custody has been announced following the ministerial level talks between Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of Indian Radha Mohan Singh and Minister for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development of Sri Lanka Mahinda Amaraweera in Colombo.
The talks were held on Monday following te first meeting of the Joint Working Group on fisheries in new Delhi on December 31.
