Delhi High Court judge Indira Banerjee to head Madras High Court

Delhi High Court judge Indira Banerjee was today appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

New Delhi: Delhi High Court judge Indira Banerjee was today appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

After then chief justice of the Madras high court Sanjay Kishan Kaul was elevated to the Supreme Court in February, Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh was appointed as the acting chief justice.

Now, Justice Banerjee has been appointed as the chief justice, official sources in the Law Ministry said today.

Justice Banerjee (59) enrolled as an advocate in 1985 and practiced both in the original and appellate sides of Calcutta High Court in all branches of law except criminal.

She was appointed permanent judge of Calcutta High Court in February, 2002 and was transferred to Delhi High Court in August last.
