Chennai: Deepa Jayakumar, niece of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, today filed her nominations for the RK Nagar assembly constituency for the April 12 bypoll as MGR Amma Deepa Peravai candidate, the party floated by her.

Deepa filed her papers before polling officer Pravin Nair after paying respects at the memorial of Jayalalithaa.


Stating that it was the people of R K Nagar constituency who visited her soon after the death of Jayalalithaa, Deepa said, "I have come here to file my nominations.The people of R K Nagar constituency will convey to the world who is the true heir of Amma (Jayalalithaa)".


"Definitely, a victory in this poll will create a history in my (political) life", she told reporters after filing her nomination.


Noting that AIADMK needed a good leadership, Deepa said the cadres of the party were sure that only she can take the party on the path shown by Jayalalithaa.


Asked on the symbol that she would contest in the bypoll, Deepa said, she would contest in whichever symbol allotted by the Election Commission.


To a query, she said the manifesto would be released on the day she begins her campaign.


Deepa last month floated the MGR Amma Deepa Peravai kick starting her political career.


Bypoll to the constituency in the city was necessitated following the death of Jayalalithaa on December 5 last year.
