The chief minister briefed PM Modi on the ongoing restoration works following the devastating impact of cyclone Vardah earlier this month in the state.

He submitted a memorandum, seeking disaster relief from the prime minister, the ANI reported.

Cyclone Vardah had hit Tamil Nadu on December 12. Chennai and some northern areas of the state bore the brunt of the cyclonic storm.

His visit comes amid a growing chorus to install V K Sasikala at the helm of the Tamil Nadu government.

On Sunday, top leaders of the ruling AIADMK, including Panneerselvam and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, met Sasikala at her Chennai residence and urged her to lead both the party and the government.

However, Sasikala, a long-time aide of former CM Jayalalithaa, is yet to respond to the request, which have been pouring in since Jaya's demise.
