WASHINGTON: Unlike some people who believe that a robot revolution would leave us with fewer jobs, experts said it will instead help create millions of jobs.
A growing number of experts believe that irrespective of robots playing a key role, human beings would still be required to manage AI and automation.
They claimed that such a revolution would create at least 21 million new jobs.
In a report, IT consulting firm Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. said that new job categories may soon emerge from technological and societal changes.
And the new jobs could be “genetic diversity officer,” “virtual store sherpa” and “personal memory curator,” the Wall Street Journal reported, citing the study.
And employers would need to fill these posts within the next decade, it said.
“It’s easier to understand what types of jobs are going to go away,” Ben Pring, director of Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work, was quoted as saying.
Pring along with two other Cognizant executives wrote the 2017 report “What to Do When Machines Do Everything.”
He said that the idea behind the report is to “to craft a credible narrative” of what's going to happen in future.
Pring said that past studies have also concluded that artificial intelligence and automation can create jobs.
He said that he disagrees with the grim no-jobs future that some envision.
Entrepreneurs like Tesla Inc. founder Elon Musk believe that people would be out of work and need a social safety net to maintain economic order.
