Lucknow: Amid growing concern over the level of violence against women in the country, a woman in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district was burnt to death by her in-laws for not bringing a SUV in dowry.
Police has registered a case and arrested the victim's father-in-law in connection with the case.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 7,634 women died in the country due to dowry harassment in 2015.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Women and Child Development Ministry Maneka Gandhi had said that 8,233, 8,083, and 8,455 cases were registered under section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (Dowry Death) in the country in 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively.
