MIRZAPUR: It seems like there still has a lot to be done when it comes to the safety of foreign nationals in the country.

In the latest incident, some foreign tourists were allegedly beaten up by locals in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

After the tourists approached the police, four persons were arrested in connection with the assault, said a news agency ANI report.

This is not the first instance where foreign tourists have had to face harassment from locals in Uttar Pradesh.

In November, a German tourist was allegedly thrashed by a railway contractor at the Robertsganj Railway Station in Sonbhadra. The accused in this case, allegedly had got upset after the tourist did not respond to his greetings and thereafter, in a fit of rage, attacked him.

In October, a Swiss couple was attacked by a group of men in Agra's Fatehpur Sikri.

Quentin Jeremy Clerc and girlfriend Marie Droz were assaulted by four youths with sticks and stones. While Clerc had suffered a skull fracture, Droz received treatment for multiple injuries. The couple alleged that some of locals passed lewd comments on the woman and tried to molest her. When they resisted, the grouo of men attacked them and left them with severe injuries.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had condemned such incidents after the attack on the Swiss couple and had said that his government will not accept such incidents.
