Gupta, an MBA graduate, was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning with multiple bullet injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries, said the police.

"We were suspecting the role of her family members. Her father Rakesh Gupta has been arrested in the case. Further probe is on and a licenced weapon of Gupta has been sent for forensic examination," Deepak Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, said.

The police also questioned the role of women family members in the case, calling it 'dubious', after they failed to inform the police about the incident on time.

Rakesh Gupta, suspected of filicide, is a former health department employee.

The Guptas lived in Eldeco-II, an upmarket colony off Rae Bareli Road. The family has claimed that the MBA graduate committed suicide due to personal issues.
