Mulayam Singh exudes confidence, says SP-Congress alliance will get majority in UP, Akhilesh will become CM again

Lucknow: Ahead of counting of votes for the recently concluded assembly elections in five states, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday exuded confidence that SP-Congress led by his son Akhilesh Yadav will get majority in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters in state capital Lucknow, Mulayam Singh said, “SP-Congress alliance is going to get comfortable majority in UP.''

When asked about who will be the chief minister if the SP-Congress combine wins polls in the state, the veteran leader said, ''Akhilesh will be the CM.''

Mulayam had earlier denied any rift within the party and exuded confidence that the SP-Congress alliance will win comfortably in UP.

“There is no rift in SP. Akhilesh will become chief minister as a lot of development work was done in his regime,” Yadav told reporters after casting his vote here.

Assembly elections in UP were conducted in seven phases and the results will be out on March 11.

When asked about his brother Shivpal Yadav, who is contesting from Jaswant Nagar in SP stronghold Etawah, Yadav said, “He will win by a big margin”.

Interestingly, Mulayam had earlier said that the elected legislators of his party will decide who will head the government in Uttar Pradesh after the assembly elections.

"The elected legislators and the Samajwadi Party's Parliamentary Board will pick the next chief minister," Mulayam Singh had told reporters in Lucknow, virtually admitting to continuing differences within the extended Yadav family.
